Sutter Health Child Life Specialist-Pediatrics-Mountain View (Limited Term) in Mountain View, California

Position Overview:

The Child Life Specialist, under the direction of the Pediatrics Service Line Directors and/or service line physician leadership, will have a unique opportunity to start, scale and grow an innovative outpatient child life program that effectively address identified needs of the PAMF Pediatric patients and families throughout the bay area.

This position will focus on the following areas: 1. Education and training of physicians and staff on child life related skills and knowledge. 2. Child life program development. 3. Direct patient care.

Specifically, this position will provide hands on demonstration of developmentally appropriate language, approach and explanation of procedures, coping strategies, positioning, distraction techniques, and behavior-reward techniques. Develop training modules and related materials. Advice on creating a more child friendly environment in our lobby, hallway and exam room. Implement strategies that result in policies, practices, and trainings which enable staff to deliver child-centered care that measurably improve child and family's experience during their outpatient medical visits and increase physician and staff efficiencies.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development or closely related field

  • Completion of Child Life internship

  • Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS)

  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with hospitalized and health children and with families

  • Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders

  • Must have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with children, families and clinical staff, both verbally and in writing. Adjust language and demeanor to the development and emotional state of the child.

  • Ability to implement therapeutic play activities for individual children and groups, apply knowledge of child growth and development and assess children's behavior's and needs.

  • Must be willing to travel to other PAMF locations
