Sutter Health Radiologic Technologist IV Lead - Catheterization Laboratory in Roseville, California


The Radiological Technologist IV Cath Lab Lead provides expertise to coordinate the overall operation of the Imaging Department to include training new Radiological Technologist IV and participating in the development of written protocols. The successful incumbent will provide cardiovascular diagnostic, interventional imaging, related non-vascular studies and patient care services at defined levels to patients. Also performs computed tomography imaging services at defined levels. The incumbent uses independent judgment to operate and be accountable for radiographic equipment. The incumbent produces quality radiographic examinations within the standards of department regulations and regulatory agencies and in a manner consistent with a safe, professional environment for all.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.

  • Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols.

  • Partnership with Central Distribution to ensure inventory control is appropriate for the Cath Lab operations.

  • Ensure charges are captured appropriately for patient billing.

  • Participate in LEAN process improvement events throughout the year and as needed.

  • Ensure all equipment used in the Cath Lab is compliant with safety and regulatory compliance, including quality control checks as required.

  • Manage reporting and maintenance of Cath Lab computer programs.

  • Implements radiation protection and safety standards to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.

  • May be required to train / precept students and new techs Monitors the hemodynamic and cardiac status during diagnostic and interventional procedures.

  • Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical exposure parameters accurately.

  • Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within accepted scope of practice, and applicable state/federal regulations.

  • Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of cardiac and vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures as well as other non-vascular invasive and CT procedures.




  • ARRT Registered Technologist, {RT(R)} in good standing.

  • ARRT Vascular-Interventional Technology (VI) and/or Cardiac-Interventional Technology (CI) and/or Computed Tomography (CT) is preferred.

  • CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider required (ACLS within 6 months of hire).

  • Flouroscopy license required (within 6 months of hire).

  • State Licensure (CRT) is required.

  • Graduate of a JRCERT accredited educational program in radiography.


  • A thorough understanding of cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring.

  • Thorough understanding of cross-sectional anatomy.

  • Solid base of knowledge with computer workstations and advanced imaging techniques.

  • Requires comprehensive Angiography and/or cardiac cath lab and CT experience as is normally obtained in approximately three years.

  • Previous cardiac catheterization experience preferred.

  • A minimum of three to five years relevant experience preferred.


  • Substantial knowledge of cardiac cath procedures; operation and care of radiologic equipment and diagnostic imaging; electronic imaging and image transfer, storage, and retrieval; mathematics through algebra level; basic chemistry; bacteriology; electrical circuitry; radiation safety; and aseptic technique.

  • Understands radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to staff and patients.

  • Able to recognize potential abnormalities and prioritize accordingly.


  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.
