Sutter Health Senior Communications Designer in San Francisco, California
This position will translate ideas into visual stories for multiple projects and stakeholders. This role is responsible for communications design and prototyping in a variety of mediums such as print, presentations, physical spaces, event materials, digital UI, illustration, video/animation, and physical spaces. Imagines and executes visual tone, colors, typography, hierarchies and systems for both internal projects, external partnership pilots, and for the team brand.
Helps visualize and synthesize complex information such as system maps, patient journeys, and insight frameworks to clearly translate into a clear and simple narrative. This position leverages strategic thinking skills married with design-production skills for execution.
This position will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team that includes service/experience designers, researchers, project managers, business designers, and engineers, and will also work closely with the leadership team on various communications needs.
Bachelor's Degree in Design, Business, Healthcare or other related field required Or equivalent education/experience
Design Experience: Has strong portfolio highlighting communications design, graphics design, visual design, storytelling, prototyping is required.
Some healthcare experience preferred, but not required. We also value someone with an outside perspective to keep the team’s thinking fresh.
Skills and Knowledge
Has a depth in communication design, and is a strong storyteller and prototype in a variety of mediums such as print, digital, illustration, video/animation, and physical spaces.
Comfortable synthesizing complex information into clear insights and visual narratives.
Communications/Graphic Design: A visual thinker who strategically and translates ideas into visual stories, whether that is a new brand, a logo, a presentation, a digital mockup, a storyboard, or complex information design of a system map or patient journey. Imagines and executes visual tone, colors, typography, hierarchies and systems for both internal projects, external partnership pilots, and for the team brand. Help synthesize findings with team and clearly communicate and visualize stakeholder needs, insights, human needs and opportunity areas.
Prototyping: Proven ability to prototype ideas and translate concepts into tangible deliverables on projects ranging from print materials, digital products, physical spaces, and/or new technologies.
Storytelling: Proven experience (as a career or a hobby) in one of the following storytelling mediums also preferred: writing, film/video, illustration, animation, or photography.
Digital UI Visual Design: Can visually mockup digital solutions such as websites/apps.
Interpersonal: Ability to articulate a vision and translate complex ideas into lay terms, and to engage with diverse audiences, including peers, management, and external partners. Comfortable communicating the value of design to non-designers.
Toolkit: Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, Sketch, Microsoft Office Suite. Video and Audio Editing/Post-production capabilities preferred.
