Position Overview:

A Laboratory Assistant II at Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital is an introductory position in the Clinical Laboratory. The general duties that are completed by individuals in this job class include: 1) phlebotomy procedures on all ages of patients, 2) processing of specimens, 3) registry of patients/specimens, 4) ability to perform in Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital's Outpatient Drawing Station, 5) utilization of the hospital and laboratory information systems, 6) performance of duties in the Microbiology department, 7) performance of front desk duties, 8) assists in the inventory and supply needs of the laboratory. A Laboratory Assistant II must be able to perform under pressure and may be required to work any shift (depending on the department's needs and their training).

Job Description :

EDUCATION

  • Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

  • HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience

  • Other: Successful completion of phlebotomy training

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

  • CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

  • One to two or more years of recent experience as a Laboratory Assistant in an acute care hospital setting is required

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Basic knowledge of the functions of a Clinical Laboratory or Anatomical Pathology department and demonstrated phlebotomy skills.

  • Understands the basic concepts of:

  • Continuous Quality Improvement

  • MSDS Program.

  • Laboratory Safety (OSHA Guidelines, Chemical Hygiene).

  • Infection Control.

  • Attitude- maintains a positive attitude.

  • Communication Skills- good communication skills (both orally and in writing).

  • Computer Skills- Capable of effectively utilizing the hospital’s and laboratory’s Information System. Basic word-processing, e-mail, and spreadsheet skills are desirable.

  • Customer Relations- demonstrates positive customer relations.

  • Flexibility- able to adjust in a positive manner to changes in work schedules and assignments based on the needs of the department.

  • Interactions- ability to work independently, as part of a team or committee.

  • Minimal Supervision- demonstrated ability to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision.

  • Organizational skills- maintains good organizational skills.

  • Policy and Procedures- follows established (hospital and laboratory) policies and procedures.

  • Prioritization- ability to prioritize and successfully complete their assigned workload in a stressful environment.

  • Problem Solving- able to problem solve effectively.

  • Work Environment- maintains an effective, uncluttered, and safe working environment.

  • Work Habits- maintains good basic work habits (i.e., arriving to work on time, takes their lunches/breaks according to established procedures).

  • Working Relationships- able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members from all departments.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of customer’s needs.

  • Takes the appropriate actions to meet our customer’s needs.

  • Takes personal responsibility to meet customer’s needs.

Pay Range is $27.76 to $34.52 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
